Ms Blainey and Miss Wright are looking forward to working with Sycamore and Chestnut classes this year. They have very high expectations of the children, who are now the oldest in the school, particularly as they will be taking their English and Maths SATs next May.
Our main focus this year is to improve the quality of the children’s writing and we would appreciate parents help and support in this area by encouraging them at home. Some useful websites include BBC Revise Wise and Punctuation Paintball. The children will also be expected to read every night and get their homework diaries signed on a regular basis.
In year 6 our topics for this term will be Inventors and What’s Cooking? We will be investigating the following aspects;
- Forces
- Reversible and irreversible changes
- Solids liquids and gases
- Famous inventors including Thomas Edison and Isaac Newton.
Our PE days are Tuesdays and Thursdays and full sports kit is required, this is available to buy from the school office.
Homework will be set throughout the week and this will sometimes take the form of research and project work, which will help to prepare the children for secondary school.
Please ensure that all your child’s belongings are labelled and that they are provided with a folder, pencil, ruler, rubber and a capped reusable water bottle.
This year spellings are going to be taught in line with the National Framework, therefore spellings will no longer be sent home to learn. However, please spend time practising spellings and times tables with your child.
Thank you in anticipation of your support for what we hope will be a great year. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. |
