22.05.20 Latest on update for wider reopening of schools for Year 6, Year 1 and Reception
Update on partial reopening of school 15.05.20
I was hoping to write to you this week on the plan of reopening of Year 6, Reception and Year 1. However, with the subsequent announcement on Monday and then publications of documents, which have been further updated throughout the week, our position remains clear on the return of selected year groups. However, we are unclear at the current time on how we will implement all of the recommendations.
I am in regular contact with Merton Local Authority and other local head teachers; we are waiting for additional guidance before we can make any firm plans for the children’s return. As you know from various media news items, the teaching and support staff unions have been in further consultation with the DfE and are meeting again today.
I would like to thank you for your continued support and efforts with home learning. I hope you are all keeping safe and staying healthy and realise how difficult this lockdown period has been for many of our families. Your child’s safety and wellbeing will always be the key priority, so please do get in touch if you have any concerns. If you have any queries about any work set by teachers please email the relevant year group.
Ms R Shahjahan.
Update on current situation
I hope that you are all safe and well. As the time is passing we are sadly hearing that some of our families have been directly affected by Covid-19. Our thoughts go out to you during this very difficult time. I would like you to know that you are not alone and if there’s any support that we can give you during this time, please do not hesitate to contact the school there is always myself or a member of SLT on site. If you do need to contact us there is a member of the office team in school from 9:00am -3:15pm every weekday to answer the phone. They will do their best to help you with any queries or pass on messages for you to the relevant staff members.
We hope you are all accessing the children’s learning on our website: It is being regularly updated under the heading “Children” and under that “Home Working.” This is where teachers provide work linked to the children’s current learning for pupils to do at home. There is also useful information on the website regarding further links you can access to underpin the children’s learning. The “Parent” tab will also be updated regularly. There are currently bilingual books for parents as well as support from the Merton children well-being service. Please keep checking what’s available.
Teacher contacting parents
As you know from my letter to you on 20th April teachers can be contacted between 11.00 am and 12.00 noon each weekday via email if you have any feedback or questions on your child’s work. Please see email addresses under the "Parent" tab for them. Teachers have started to phone families this week to see how the children are getting on, so if you have a missed phone call from the school that is probably why. If you have not received one you should do in the next week.
There is much media coverage about when schools should re-open. This is not helpful either to you as families or to us. As yet there has not been a definitive date set for re-opening and we are awaiting more direction from the government about when and how this should happen, hopefully further information will be given this Sunday (10/05/20). Once we have some further clarity about this, I will be in touch with you to let you know what this will mean for our school.
Stay safe and stay well
